Funny how you can completely miss something this good first time around, and even fail to be impressed when you watch it (distractedly, I admit) on DVD several years later.

Third time was a charm for me, though, and I'm now firmly convinced this was THE best sitcom of the 90s, together with "One Foot in the Grave" Cheesy

The last great TV role for a Rowan Atkinson in top form, again on a script by motormouth Ben Elton, gags follow in a continuous stream, same as tears of myrth down my cheeks Grin

I can't tell you how many times I had to rewind because I was laughing so hard for the previous gag that I missed the next one Grin

(about this review... the guy's got some points as to why the series wasn't too well received back then, but I'd guess he just doesn't like Ben Elton much...)

(that's better Wink)

But never mind hoity-toity, namby-pamby, willy-nilly reviewers Wink, make up your mind for yourself...

Several full episodes in there, nearly the whole series, I'd guess... Smiley

I am so glad someone else appreciates this totally under rated show.  I actually liked it the first time round, but I was a bit young then and didn't quite get everything.  Now I love it.  Rowan Atkinson is on the same form as he was in Blackadder or Bean and the supporting cast are amazing.

Some fantastic lines, like when Grim says "It's your cock up, my arse!"  The king of double entendres!

Not my fav i must admit, but there are some funny scenes there. The episode where the documentry crew film them and the "what 'ism' ever hurt anybody" scene stand out for me.

Another of Grim's pearls... "it's my arse on the line, and I'm up to my neck in it!" Grin

A strange image forms in one's mind there... Wink

I think this is very dialogue-driven, basically, to the point where there's little room for plots among the barrage of gags and one-liners, in typical Ben Elton's style, and that might be a reason for not liking it too much if you watch it a bit distractedly, as I did the first time, but when you start paying attention it delivers in spades, imho of course.
