Anyone seen this?
Well, once ascertained it wasn't lost tapes resurfacing but a "reenactment" I had my misgivings, of course, the biggest one called Jonathan Ross, 'fraid I'm not the man's biggest fan, but as W.C. Fields famously never said, "a fellow who hates dogs and children can't be all bad, can he?", the same could be perhaps paraphrased to a man who loves his Cookie, can't be all bad...

So, made sure Ross was just hosting and not trying to perform himself, as he disastrously did years ago in another Cook celebration show, I sat back and, with no great expectations, decided to give a chance to performers such as Ade Edmondson, Angus Deayton, Hugh Dennis and Alistair McGowan, and wasn't disappointed.
From what I read, reviews of the show ranged from nasty to condescending at best, but they all missed the point entirely, imho, focusing on the fact that "Pete and Dud themselves were better"... well, what a big surprise that is...
This was a nice chance to see those lost sketches played live again, I've read all the scripts myself, but a performance is always better, even when the original performers are not available, and provided the replacements are as good as these, to me that's at least second best, still far better than nothing at all.
My only real gripe is in fact that at least two of those lost sketches, "Father and Son" and "The Psychiatrist" are actually available as performed by Pete and Dud themselves, from the "Behind the Fridge" live show, they could have dispensed with those and used a couple of other "really lost" sketches instead, but apart from that, I found this an enjoyable show, and was especially pleased to see good old Ade at it again, a rare sight these days, he might have lost most of his own creative spirit, but he'll always be one of those folks who make me smile just as soon as they appear on a screen
